The University of Cambridge organised a Gibraltar Literature Symposium on 12–13 September 2023, centered on the theme “Llanito Culture and Writing.” The event, held at the Faculty of English in partnership with Gibraltar’s Ministry for Culture, explored language use, literary creativity, and wider aspects of Gibraltarian identity. All the Gibraltarian writers who presented had contributed to the book Gibraltarians and their Language: Twenty-One Linguistic Biographies, edited by Professor Elena Seoane of the University of Vigo along with M. G. Sanchez, Lucía Loureiro-Porto and Cristina Suárez-Gómez. Scholars from Italy, Spain, Germany, and the United Kingdom also took part in the two‑day gathering. Halfway through the event, M. G. Sanchez launched a revised version of his novel The Escape Artist at Cambridge University's iconic Oriel Room.
